Our Vision, Mission and Values
Our Vision
At StoryCentre Canada, we believe that sharing and listening to each other’s stories and creating something from that effort can change lives, change communities, and change the world.
Our Mission
StoryCentre Canada’s mission is to equip communities and organizations to create story-based programs for community-building, research, education, and advocacy. We do this work through our innovative participatory media group trainings that help individuals bring their first-person narratives and stories to life through short, creative multimedia videos.
Our Values
Deep Listening
We believe that listening deeply, and bearing witness, is essential to creating meaningful change for individuals and communities. We approach our storytelling work with love, self-awareness, and a recognition of the dignity of all people.
Creativity
We believe in the power of innovation and curiosity. We constantly seek better ways to provide spaces that foster creative expression, ownership, and agency in the communities and individuals we serve.
Respect
We value and honour the diversity of perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds that make up the communities we serve. We recognize that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, care, and compassion, and that every person has something valuable to contribute.
Humility
We see ourselves as part of a larger storytelling community, and our efforts as part of long-standing movements for change. We view cultural humility as the foundation of effective partnerships and the key to building strong, resilient, and sustainable communities.
